About Our VISTA Program
United Way of the CSRA’s AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) program empowers passionate individuals to make a lasting impact by addressing some of our community’s most pressing challenges. Focused on fighting poverty, this program brings dedicated changemakers into local organizations to build stronger systems, expand services, and create sustainable solutions.
AmeriCorps VISTA members commit to a full-time, one-year service term with United Way of the CSRA and its network of community partners. During their service, they collaborate with nonprofits, local governments, schools, and businesses throughout the CSRA to create meaningful, lasting impact.
VISTA members support a wide range of focus areas, including:
- Improving access to education and reducing child illiteracy
- Enhancing health services for all ages
- Supporting workforce development and career readiness
- Strengthening community engagement and resource connectivity
- Developing new programs that address local needs

What We Do
AmeriCorps VISTA members serve as catalysts for change—working behind the scenes and alongside community partners to strengthen programs that support individuals and families in need. Rather than providing short-term fixes, VISTA members focus on building long-term capacity that helps organizations grow and better serve the community.
VISTA members provide 12 months of support to a local nonprofit or a school through:
- Capacity Building
- Community Engagement
- Partnership Development
- Volunteer Recruitment
- Fundraising
- Event Planning
Summer Associate Program
In addition to year-long service opportunities, United Way of the CSRA offers a VISTA Summer Associate Program, an 8-week experience focused on direct service. Summer Associates work to address critical seasonal challenges such as childhood hunger, nutrition education, and summer learning loss in underserved communities.
